Abstract

The integration of renewable energy into electric vehicle charging stations was analysed within the Ecuadorian context; within this framework, the objective was to examine the opportunities for incorporating charging stations powered by renewable energy into Ecuador’s electromobility sector. Using a systematic literature review approach, recent research on technologies, optimisation, grid impact and economic viability was evaluated. The results showed that hybrid photovoltaic-wind systems with storage offer high reliability and renewable shares exceeding 90%, whilst reducing costs and emissions; added to this are benefits in terms of the stability of the electricity system and regional development, although regulatory constraints remain that limit the scalability of these solutions. It was concluded that renewable integration is viable and strategic for meeting climate targets in Ecuador.
